Don’t let anyone ever try and tell you that the life of a student is all fun and games! It is an extremely hard period in any person’s life, you are only just figuring out who you are as a person. You start building up your ideals and theories on how society, politics and life in general should work, but all the while you are being bombarded with problems and issues. Some are menial and annoying, and some are existential and huge, some people just can’t hack it and drop out very quickly. But for the ones that do, only praise can be given! They braved the storm of education, and came out the other side! And this little list is for them, these are common problems for students!

Housing

Didn’t housing seem like the easiest thing in the world when you were a kid? You sat there doodling, drawing yourself in a nice big house, completely unaware of today’s current economical climate, as well as just the general difficulty of trying to find somewhere to live! First off, landlords can be surly and sometimes aren’t helpful at all. Secondly, if you are living in a city like London, more often than not, your house can seem like its about to fall down because it is old and pretty poorly designed. And thirdly, it’s just so expensive! Everywhere that you like seems to be out of your budget! It really is a testing time for students when they reach the end of the year and they may be forced to look for new housing, and it makes you long for home! The cosiness of the house, and the warmness of your room! Instead you are sitting in an ice cold box, trying to write the best term paper you can. The best advice that can be given to students about housing is to look early!

Essay writing

Yes, if you are a student, then you are most probably going to have to encounter an essay at some point. I’ll apologise in advance for what you have to go through. Essays are gruelling experiences, starting from nothing to putting around 7500 words onto paper that are informative, enlightening and thought-provoking is no easy task by any means. You have to live up to your teacher’s expectations and the marking criteria itself, all while staying within the boundaries of the word count and keeping to a coherent structure. It really is one of the most difficult tasks you will have to carry out as a student. Though, you can find essay help online on a selection of websites that assign an expert writer to help you, many students choose to go it alone as they want to be able to say the work was solely theirs. The best solution to essay writing, is just to give yourself a lot of time. You need a lot of time to carry out research, and then time to structure your argument and theories, time to write it and integrate meaningful quotes, and of course, time to check it over at the end. The only way you will get through it is by being patient with yourself and understanding that writing an essay is an extremely challenging thing to do.

Socialising

Socialising is seen as a big part of the University experience these days. And though it is a lot of fun, it can prove quite the problem for students. Firstly, you can end up socialising too much, and this can lead to you forgetting about your studies and failing your classes. Secondly, you can socialise to little, which will cause you to feel detached from friends and the University around you. It is about finding that perfect balance between the two that’s important. Giving yourself enough time to socialise with your friends so that you don’t feel too pressured, but not getting carried away with it.

Two of the main problems for students there, these two things really do not help the fragile mentality of someone struggling to study something they love and are passionate about. But no one said the life of a student was going to be easy, Universities are an increasingly polarising place filled with trapdoors in the form of forgotten due dates and difficult, in-depth research. Along with problems that come as part of being a student, including trying to find a house that meets all of your needs and requirements, as well as living in the same space as people your own age for long periods of time.
