For many years’ people drunk water from the tap believing it was safe to do so. Unfortunately, it has become clear that this is not always the case. This is why there has been a dramatic increase in the number of water filters in Sydney.

In fact there are several significant benefits to drinking purified water instead of standard tap water according to Dwelling Advisor:

Taste

You may not believe it until your try it but there is actually a significant difference in the taste of purified water as compared to standard tap water.  A good purification system will remove chemicals from the water; specifically large quantities of chlorine. This compound is added to kill bacteria but it is also known to have a detrimental effect on human health.

Chlorine is responsible for giving tap water a distinctive odor and taste, take the chlorine out and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the difference.

Peace Of Mind

Research is ongoing into the detrimental effects of chlorine, fluoride and heavy metals on human health. Using a purification system means that you don’t need to worry about these things damaging your health. That’s a great incentive and a feeling of peace of mind.

Pipe Debris

The water that leaves your local treatment works is periodically tested to ensure it reaches the government approved standards.

However, it is impossible for the treatment works to monitor all the hundreds of miles of pipes that carry the water from the treatment works to your home. A small leak can allow bacteria in. In addition as the insides of the pipes start to wear small contaminants will flake off and end up in the water supply.

Your purification system will stop you drinking these contaminants.

Mineral Intake

It is possible to use a process called reverse osmosis to take the minerals out of your water. However, not all minerals are bad for you. In fact reverse osmosis will extract the calcium, magnesium and potassium despite the fact that these are all minerals which are beneficial to the human body.

That’s why it’s essential to use a good quality filter and not to go over board and remove everything from your water.

Heavy Metals

Tap water often contains a variety of heavy metals, including lead and asbestos. These are in tiny amounts which should not be harmful to your body. However, these metals are not easy for your body to expel. Instead they will build up in your body and can eventually cause serious health issues.

Purified water does not have this issue as the heavy metals are removed; leaving the water safe to drink.

Bacteria

Even the smallest split in a water pipe can allow bacteria to get into the water supply. As already mentioned the water treatment company cannot possibly keep an eye on all the pipes that are already laid into the ground.

In short a leak could be occurring underground without anyone being aware of it. The bacteria can then enter the pipe and will be transported to your tap. A purification filter will prevent this from being an issue.
