The industry continues to debate the effects on the UK <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/property\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/property;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.05wrt;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Property\" >property<\/a> market with predications that 2013 will see a shift towards for sale by owner selling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Estate (law)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/estate-law\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/estate_law;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.038t85;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Estate_(law)\" >estate<\/a> agents website <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/estateagenttoday.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EAT<\/a> features a number of debates and angry reactions about the subject.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">On November 21st Adam Day, director of Hatched.co.uk an online estate agency (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/compare-estate-agents\" title=\"estate agents\">estate agents<\/a> that operate solely online) predicted that hundreds of their fellow agents who operate on the high street <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>will go out of business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Day forecasts that within two years, online agents will account for over 10% of the market, putting 1,400 high street agents out of business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">He said: \u201cFor every <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/online-estate-agents\">online estate agent<\/a> that opens, nine high street agents will close, saving the public approximately \u00a3350m in fees.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The storm revolves around the Property Misdescriptions Act and the Estate Agents Act its scope that currently includes private house sale websites such as The House Shop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The House Shop\u00a0called for a relaxation of the laws which were designed to protect consumers from unscrupulous estate agents. They evidenced restrictive practices by many UK property portals, citing the Property Misdescriptions Act as the main reason why they would not allow private seller advertising<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The government aims to provide confidence to existing private sales businesses and potential new entrants, thereby stimulating competition and innovation, leading to more consumer choice and better standards of service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Consumer Affairs Minister, <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bis.gov.uk\/ministers\/jo-swinson\" target=\"\">Jo Swinson<\/a> announced <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Following on from the Red Tape Challenge, the Government\u2019s response to the consultation on amending the Estate Agents Act to encourage new business models confirms <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Plan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/plan\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/plan;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.018jrr;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Plan\" >plans<\/a> to exempt intermediary agents which help <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Home insurance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/home-insurance\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/home_insurance;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0313mp;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/Home_insurance;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Home_insurance\" >homeowners<\/a> privately advertise and sell their houses from the Estate Agents Act 1979 (EAA).
