The undercover research is shocking but in my view not surprising. Racism in the housing sector is subtle and done with a nod and wink. Housing seems to get the worst out of people and racism is no exception. Gone are the days in the 1960&#8217;s of &#8220;No Dogs, No Blacks No Irish&#8221;. Things are a lot more subtle for sure. I&#8217;m not going to see like you are racist.&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">A black researcher was denied viewings, yet his white counterpart was welcomed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">BBC London was initially tipped off certain letting agents were willing to discriminate against African-Caribbean people on behalf of landlords, with the alleged misdoing rife in parts of west London.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">To expose the practices, a plush three-bedroom flat in north Kensington was acquired. But obviously we&#8217;ve got our ways around that. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.old-and-bold.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Disability-Act-2010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"468\" height=\"417\" align=\"none\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Landlords Breaking The Law<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Landlords that insist that they have a tenant that matches a particular race, age gender etc break the law.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adviceguide.org.uk\/england\/discrimination_e\/discrimination_about_discrimination_e\/equality_act_2010_discrimination_and_your_rights.htm\" target=\"\">The Equality Act 2010 <\/a>makes your rights not to be discriminated against, discrimination means treating someone worse than other people because of who they are.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The groups of people who have the right not be discriminated against have also been extended. People who belong to these groups have what are called protected characteristics.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">It doesn&#8217;t matter whether any of these characteristics apply to you, or the people in your life. If you are treated worse because someone thinks you belong to a group of people with protected characteristics, this is discrimination.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Act now also protects you if people in your life, such as family members, friends or co-workers have a protected characteristic and you are treated less favourably because of that. For example, you are discriminated against because your son is gay.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The characteristics that are protected by the Equality Act 2010 are:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><\/span>age, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">disability<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">, <\/span>marriage or civil partnership (in employment only)<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>pregnancy and maternity, <\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>race, r<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">eligion or belief<\/span>, sex, sexual orientation<span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Equality Act 2010 covers you at work and when you use services, such as shops, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-to-rent\" title=\"rental property\">rental property<\/a>, housing , hotels or gyms, hospitals or other free services.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"2\" style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">I congratulate BBC London in this research, its a wake up call for those agents making immoral judgements that
