There could be more homes out there&#8230; say, about 18,500. According to a Think-Tank, that is the number of homes that should have been built since 2009.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">Million Homes Million Lives has <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehousing.co.uk\/soaring-profits-mean-18500-social-homes-sacrificed\/7005243.article\">made a report<\/a><\/span><\/span> stating that housing associations have spent too much money &#8211; \u00a32.4 billion to be precise &#8211; on commercial activity, when they could have been building more homes. The Think-Tank worries that the associations have been blinded by the profits they are making, which have increased from \u00a3203 million to \u00a31.93 billion over the past four years. Operating costs, however, have increased by a mere 11 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">Co-founder and chairman of Million Homes Million Lives, Natalie Elphicke, wants housing associations to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservativehome.com\/platform\/2014\/08\/natalie-elphicke-learning-the-real-value-of-social-housing.html\">put up a &#8220;residents first&#8221; approach<\/a><\/span><\/span>, and believes that they should not be more commercially active than socially active, especially when it increases the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Renting\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/renting\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/renting;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01y857;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Renting\" >rent<\/a> for tenants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">Million Homes Million Lives published a report in March called <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.millionhomes.org\/downloads\/nation-rent.pdf\">Nation Rent<\/a><\/span><\/span>, and it explains that if housing conditions continue as they are currently, commercial <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Landlord\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/landlord\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/landlord;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02mx_6;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Landlord\" >landlords<\/a> will dominate the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Market (economics)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/market-economics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/market_economics;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Market_(economics)\" >market<\/a>, and that there will be more renters than home-owners in the not-too-distant future. The Think-Tank has also provided a &#8216;Million Homes Tool-kit&#8217;, which is meant to help the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Real estate development\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/real-estate-development\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/real_estate_development;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.028sdw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Real_estate_development\" >development<\/a> of <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/property\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/property;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.05wrt;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Property\" >property<\/a> portfolios and to meet the challenges created by the changing housing market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">Another report, called\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.millionhomes.org\/downloads\/better-deal.pdf\">A Better Deal for Nation Rent<\/a><\/span><\/span>, was published on the 17<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>August. The report tries to answer questions people had after reading Nation Rent, explaining how housing associations are profitable and the problems with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/rental-calculator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">renting<\/a>, pointing out that over 80% of British people want to own their own home. It also puts forth a method to determine <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"value\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/value-economics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/value_economics;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0bhr4z;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Value_(economics)\" >value for money<\/a>, called the Three Pillars of Social Value; Business Value, Social <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0q3zhcj;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing\" >Housing<\/a> Value and Social Opportunity Value.
