It was recently reported that the floating city, Venice, has been sinking about 2mm per annum, which is five times faster than initially speculated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">As a new eco-solution, creating water-borne residences are a unique solution to the problem of flooding. It was recently reported that flood-prone areas of the UK would soon be riddled with floating <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Home\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/home\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/home;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01l0mw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Home\" >homes<\/a>, instead of barricading <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"House\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/house\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/house;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.03jm5;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/House\" >houses<\/a> with heavy sandbags to prevent water inflow. This is largely due to the fact that they are below sea-level and centuries ago, used windmill powered pumps to drain water from the swamps to replenish the dry <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Land (economics)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/land-economics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/land_economics;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01238b;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/Land_(economics);http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Land_(economics)\" >land<\/a> nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">Using dams, estuaries and sea inlets as a flood-gating technique, amphibious home designs are said to be grounded at first but then rise as the water levels rise.
