Demand for new luxury homes is exceptionally high and still increasing with 25,000 units worth of new luxury housing to be built over the next decade \u2013 up 25% from last years predictions, according to EC Harris. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">The <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Value (economics)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/value-economics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/value_economics;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0bhr4z;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Value_(economics)\" >value<\/a> of these new luxury homes is estimated to be around \u00a360 billion, but there are serious concerns that the construction capacity and resources to build the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Home\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/home\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/home;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01l0mw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Home\" >homes<\/a> are just not there. Mark Farmer, head of EC Harris&#8217; <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Residential area\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/residential-area\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/residential_area;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02nfxt;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Residential_area\" >residential<\/a> team said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cThere is simply not the capacity out there to meet demand and many projects will undoubtedly fall by the wayside or experience delivery difficulties due to sheer lack of resources. Many <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Real estate development\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/real-estate-development\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/real_estate_development;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.028sdw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Real_estate_development\" >developers<\/a> and investors [\u2026] are therefore looking to jump the queue and are paying premiums for construction so they can deliver on promises they have already made to their purchasers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">An estimated 1,300 new luxury homes are due to be completed in London this year \u2013 700 fewer than EC Harris had predicted last year. A &#8216;luxury home&#8217; is defined by EC Harris as one that will sell for at least \u00a31,350 per square foot, up from \u00a31,250 last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">There have been calls for the government to get involved directly in the construction industry and help with home-building to achieve the ambitious target of 300,000 new homes built this year.
