Unfortunately for <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"tenant\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/leasehold-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/leasehold_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.03jg1x;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Leasehold_estate\" >tenants<\/a> and renters, the usual seasonal drop in rental costs has been much smaller than expected, with a meagre 0.1% drop from November to December 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Private rents are now 3% higher than the same time last year, with the average monthly UK rent now \u00a3767 for December 2014, compared to \u00a3743 in December 2013. To make matters worse, demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-to-rent\" title=\"rental properties\">rental properties<\/a> is unusually high for this time of year, meaning the possibility of any price drop in the near future is slim to none.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The problem facing renters struggling to find suitable and <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"low-\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/affordable-housing\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/affordable_housing;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.09jvc1;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Affordable_housing\" >affordable<\/a> <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Lodging\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/lodging\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/lodging;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01hjj_;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Lodging\" >accommodation<\/a> is acute, and with many lacking the funds to put down a deposit to buy a <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Housing estate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01rtvp;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing_estate\" >home<\/a>, there a few alternatives available. In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/housing-network\/2015\/jan\/16\/stop-talking-renting-choice-private-landlords\">a Guardian article this week<\/a> written by Hannah Fern, the writer urges private <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Landlord\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/landlord\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/landlord;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02mx_6;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Landlord\" >landlords<\/a> and the industry to stop talking about renting \u201cas though people have a choice\u201d. The article further stresses the reality that the vast majority of private renters are in this situation not through choice, but through necessity, as they have been locked out of home-ownership and must bite the bullet or face homelessness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A recent <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Study (room)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/study-room\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/study_room;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/Study_(room);http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.03d2yw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Study_(room)\" >study<\/a> suggested that private renters pay the most money and have the worst living conditions of any sector of the market, and the Citizen\u2019s Advice Bureau have recently published a report claiming that private renters\u2019 rights are \u201cstuck in the Dark Ages\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The situation in the private rental market has not been helped by the influx of Buy-To-Let properties into the market. As <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"House price index\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/house-price-index\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/house_price_index;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/House_price_index;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0gn3x3;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/House_price_index\" >house prices<\/a> and mortgage payments increase, Buy-to-Let landlords pass on the higher costs to tenants by increasing rents.
