The Citizen\u2019s Advice Bureau have this week claimed that private renters\u2019 rights are \u201cstuck in the Dark Ages\u201d, and private <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/renters\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/renters\" >renters<\/a> are seeing their <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0q3zhcj;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing\" >housing<\/a> costs rise to largely unaffordable levels.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">On top of this, research conducted by the Chartered Institute of Housing has found that the number of <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Housing estate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01rtvp;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing_estate\" >homes<\/a> available for social renting in the UK has fallen at more than twice the speed recorded for the previous year \u2013 removing 44,000 <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Home\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/home\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/home;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01l0mw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Home\" >homes<\/a> from the social renting sector in 2013-14. Compare this with the 19,189 <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Property\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/property\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/property;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.05wrt;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Property\" >properties<\/a> removed from the market in 2012-13 and the dramatic increase becomes obvious. These figures are even more disturbing as during the same two year period the government have introduced 28,000 newly <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/constructed\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/constructed\" >constructed<\/a> social rented homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Causes cited for the decrease in the social renting sector include hotting up of the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Right to Buy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/right-to-buy\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/right_to_buy;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.06jjh8;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Right_to_Buy\" >Right-to-Buy<\/a> market and rental price increases. For example, 17,000 of the 63,000 social rented homes lost over the past 2 years were from Right-to-Buy purchases \u2013 especially in <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/london\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/london;http:\/\/sws.geonames.org\/2643743\/;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.04jpl;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/London;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/London\" >London<\/a> where the scheme can offer buyers a discount of up to \u00a3100,000 off a home\u2019s market <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Value (economics)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/value-economics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/value_economics;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0bhr4z;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Value_(economics)\" >value<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Demand for social rented <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Lodging\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/lodging\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/lodging;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01hjj_;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Lodging\" >accommodation<\/a> is on the up and <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"council houses\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/council-house\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/council_house;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01llhc;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/Council_house;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Council_house\" >councils<\/a> are facing never ending lists of applicants looking for homes. Another reason for the decline in social rented properties is the introduction of \u2018<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Affordable housing\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/affordable-housing\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/affordable_housing;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.09jvc1;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Affordable_housing\" >affordable<\/a> rents\u2019 properties which are made available at 80% of market value rent. Many social rents have been converted to \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/rental-calculator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affordable rents<\/a>\u2019 which in some areas are provided at a far higher cost, with a 2\/3 price difference in London for example. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Chartered Institute of Housing Chief Executive, Grainia Long, has said: \u201cThe disastrous reduction in the numbers of new social homes being
