Despite the flurry of cheap mortgage deals on offer over the past few months, as lenders fight against each other to win a majority market share, re-mortgaging activity also fell 8% from October to November 2014. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Typically, in a <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Market (economics)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/market-economics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/market_economics;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Market_(economics)\" >market<\/a> with low demand you would expect house prices to decrease, however with housing stock levels approaching historic <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"affordable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/affordable-housing\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/affordable_housing;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.09jvc1;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Affordable_housing\" >lows<\/a>, prices have largely remained frozen. RICS have openly predicted that the dip in demand will not correspond to a dip in house prices \u2013 a point that many buyers will be disappointed to hear. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Office for National Statistics released figures on Tuesday showing frozen UK house prices during the month of December, with a slight drop registered in London, supporting RICS\u2019 prediction. The main concern here is that with housing stock hovering just above rock-bottom levels, a relatively minor increase in demand could result in prices (not sales) rising both quickly and dramatically. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The current market also paints a mixed picture for <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Estate (law)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/estate-law\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/estate_law;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.038t85;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Estate_(law)\" >estate<\/a> agents, who will be feeling the pinch as new instructions have fallen in 10 out of the last 12 months. On a more positive note, George Osbourne\u2019s shock overhaul of the Stamp Duty system has brought some optimism for the market in 2015, with an expected boost to both sales numbers and <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"House price index\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/house-price-index\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/house_price_index;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/House_price_index;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0gn3x3;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/House_price_index\" >house prices<\/a> of around 2-5%.
