Beauty, they say, is in the eye of the beholder. What one person loves another may hate. One man&#8217;s treasure is another man&#8217;s trash. And various other phrases expressing the sentiment. That being said, some things are so awful they&#8217;re almost universal. Transcendent, even. Transcendentally terrible.<\/p>\n<p>Which brings us to today&#8217;s article. We&#8217;ve compiled a list of 10 hideous houses, and we&#8217;re curious to know whether your tastes defy convention and you find one that you love.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Huntington, New York<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 629px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/specials-images.forbesimg.com\/imageserve\/05ur4kF7Sfa19\/0x600.jpg?fit=scale&amp;background=000000\" alt=\"\" width=\"619\" height=\"447\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/pictures\/ekkl45imh\/concrete-blocks-huntington-new-york-3\/<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ever fancied living in an enormous cinder block? Didn&#8217;t think so. Located in Huntington, NewYork, this &#8216;<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"houses\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/house\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/house;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.03jm5;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/House\" >house<\/a>&#8216; looks more like a dystopian prison cell. Complete with bland grey surfaces and a harsh rectangular architecture, you can almost <em>feel <\/em>the 24-hour surveillance and daily televisual updates from Big Brother.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Errante Guest House, Chile<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 562px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/unusual-architecture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/errante-guest-house-chile-main.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"552\" height=\"379\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: http:\/\/unusual-architecture.com\/errante-guest-house-chile\/<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The word &#8216;guest&#8217; implies people have stayed in this <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/building\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/building;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0cgh4;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Building\" >building<\/a>. Yet we can&#8217;t for the life of us understand why. The Errante Guest House honestly looks like it&#8217;s been sat on by a giant, or that it plummeted to earth from the far reaches of space and someone just thought: Nah, we don&#8217;t need to renovate, nobody&#8217;ll notice the slanted <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Floor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/floor\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/floor;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0l7_8;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Floor\" >floors<\/a> and caved in walls. Just hang a painting or something.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. We aren&#8217;t denying that. There&#8217;s nothing better than a cup of the good stuff during or after a hard day&#8217;s work. In fact, there&#8217;s rarely an occasion when tea <em>isn&#8217;t <\/em>appropriate. But on the short list of times when it isn&#8217;t, we&#8217;d like to officially add: When drawing inspiration for the design of your new <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"homes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01rtvp;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing_estate\" >home<\/a>.<br \/>\n<strong>4. There&#8217;s no way anything bad could happen by going in there. Just ignore the stuffed corpses of your childhood memories and come inside for a chat. We promise you&#8217;ll leave in one piece. Thankfully, this house was actually part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heidelberg.org\/\">Heidelberg Project<\/a> \u2013 an outdoor art exhibit \u2013 until it mysteriously burned to the ground in early 2014. Spooky!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Steel House, Texas<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 655px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/res.dallasnews.com\/interactives\/steelhouse\/images\/steelhouseMain1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"349\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: http:\/\/res.dallasnews.com\/interactives\/steelhouse\/<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This one is difficult. On the one hand, who doesn&#8217;t want a house shaped like a pig? On the other, it looks like a lump of rusted metal. Nevertheless, the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"floors\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/storey\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/storey;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02vk6kk;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Storey\" >story<\/a> of its construction is impressive. For almost 25 years \u2013 up until his death in 2008 \u2013\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertbruno.com\/\">http:\/\/www.robertbruno.com\/<\/a> birthed his swinelike vision using over 110 tons of steel. Bruno&#8217;s house has since become a point of pride for local residents, and a fairly interesting tourist attraction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Hang Nga Guesthouse, Vietnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thegrumpyoldlimey.com\/images\/buildings\/hang_8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: www.strangebuildings.thegrumpyoldlimey.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Plucked freshly from the canvas of Salvador Dali, this melting guest house looks like it&#8217;s built into an anthill. We&#8217;ll admit there&#8217;s something appealing about it: The tangled branches and sprouting vegetation are as close to living in the wild without <em>actually <\/em>living in the wild as you can probably get. That being said, from a design standpoint, perhaps they should have had another crack at it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>Pickel Barrel House, Michigan<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/netdna.tinyhouseblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/barrel2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: http:\/\/tinyhouseblog.com\/tiny-house-concept\/pickle-barrel-house\/<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Built in 1926, the Pickel Barrel House was based on two inch-tall cartoon characters who lived under a rose bush. Though novel, the design is ultimately fairly bland and tacky. Unless your name is Donkey Kong we can&#8217;t see much desire for prolonged residence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. We are always looking towards and attempting to predict the future \u2013 often hilariously inaccurately \u2013 and the early 1970s were no different. With its clam-like spaceship design and oval windows, around one hundred of these houses were constructed, many of which have now fallen into disrepair. Like a <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Land lot\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/land-lot\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/land_lot;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0gs32y;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Land_lot\" >lot<\/a> of things, though, they have since become valuable collector&#8217;s items, and it&#8217;s not uncommon for large sums of money to be spent on their purchase and restoration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. What isn&#8217;t fun is the house on the street that takes things too far. There&#8217;s always one. We get it, you like Christmas and Halloween. But you appear to be draining this quarter of the town&#8217;s electricity. Please stop, before the whole neighbourhood goes up in smoke.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Uninhabited for over 60 years, the Carleton Island Villa has been abandoned since it&#8217;s owner and his wife passed away over a century ago. Not only has the house fallen into disrepair, contributing greatly to its hideousness, it&#8217;s also extremely creepy, the kind of place you&#8217;re dared to spend the night in in an episode of Goosebumps.
