While in America political events led to the banning of alcohol until 1933, here in Britain cocktail parties were more popular than ever and this played a significant part in the d\u00e9cor of many <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Housing estate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01rtvp;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing_estate\" >homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hollywood also had a big influence on people\u2019s sense of style as the first ever moving pictures were developed, but the decade is also famous for the Wall Street Crash in 1929 which plunged many into economic depression.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Look<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 1920s had a very strong look with instantly recognisable features such as geometric prints and oriental touches as well as the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Use (law)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/use-law\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/use_law;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.05r4j5;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Use_(law)\" >use<\/a> of chrome, glass and heavily polished wood. A monochrome colour scheme and use of mirrors as well as lighting displaying women holding globes were popular motifs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/art-deco-architecture-and-interiors\/3627\/\">Art Deco<\/a>\u00a0was introduced during the decade, as well as a <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Modern architecture\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/modern-architecture\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/modern_architecture;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01tv5c;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Modern_architecture\" >modernist style<\/a> inspired by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bauhaus-dessau.de\/english\/home.html\">Bauhaus<\/a>\u00a0art school. Source: theboundary.co.uk<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Recreate the Look<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 1920s look can be recreated in a number of ways; try using mirrors or mirrored furniture, and Bauhaus-style furniture with its minimalist, streamlined shapes.
