Everyone had to endure the hardship of wartime living, and the implications this had on all aspects of their daily lives. The effect of war was still felt in the years to follow, but there was also great celebration when it ended in 1945.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The d\u00e9cor of the 1940s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the first half of the decade certain features of the 1940s <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"homes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/home\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/home;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01l0mw;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Home\" >home<\/a> were wartime requirements rather than design features; bomb shelters, blackout blinds as well as the imposed austerity had an effect on how <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Housing estate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/housing-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/housing_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.01rtvp;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Housing_estate\" >homes<\/a> looked at the time.<\/p>\n<p>When it came to decoration, the colour palette was subdued, made up of pastel and earthy tones. Update this by choosing mismatched patterns and prints that complement each other in colour and design.<\/p>\n<p>You could also adopt the 1940s approach to colour; choose one or two shades you like and use this throughout your room on walls, <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Storey\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/storey\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/storey;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02vk6kk;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Storey\" >floors<\/a> and textiles.
