The TPO is one of the schemes approved by the OFT.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: block;\">\n<p><span>Many estate agents have in addition agreed to follow the TPO Code of Practice for <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Residential area\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/residential-area\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/residential_area;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02nfxt;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Residential_area\" >Residential<\/a> Estate Agents, approved by the OFT under its Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. Estate agents signing up to this Code of Practice are required to provide additional consumer protection that goes beyond that required by the law. They can be recognised by the joint TPO\/OFT approved code logos which they display. Registered agents, who do not voluntarily accept the Code of Practice obligations of the OEA Scheme, are not entitled to show the OFT approved code logo.#<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: block;\">\n<p><span>The Property Ombudsman provides a free service for dealing with unresolved disputes between sales and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/let-for-free\" title=\"letting agents\">letting agents<\/a> who have joined the TPO and consumers who are actual or potential buyers or sellers or <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Landlord\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/landlord\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/landlord;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02mx_6;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Landlord\" >landlords<\/a> or <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"tenant\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehouseshop.com\/property-blog\/leasehold-estate\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0502\/entity\/leasehold_estate;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.03jg1x;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Leasehold_estate\" >tenants<\/a> of residential property in the UK.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: block;\">\n<p><span>The Ombudsman&#8217;s role is to reach a resolution of unresolved disputes in full and final settlement and, where appropriate, he will make an appropriate award of financial compensation or other action for example make an apology.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: block;\">\n<p><span>A Consumer Guide, available in the offices of all sales and letting&#8217;s agents who have joined the TPO, informs complainants that:<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"display: block;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Dealing with complaints about member estate agents<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\"><\/span>&#8216;Your complaint may be considered by the Ombudsman, if you believe that the agent has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\">infringed your legal rights; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\">failed to follow the rules and obligations set for agents under any code of practice to which they may subscribe;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\">treated you unfairly; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\">been guilty of mal administration (including inefficiency or undue delay)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt;\">in a way that results in you losing money or suffering avoidable aggravation, distress and\/or inconvenience.&#8217;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Property Ombudsman is the consumers resource for complaints against member estate agents and letting agents in the UK.
