  1. Safety First

Whether you live in a bungalow or multi-story house, you will need sturdy ladders to be able to clean your gutters. As always when working with ladders, make sure that you work safely.
Always place the ladder on a solid surface, not a garden lawn or other shifting surface. It is always better to work in twos. This means that if you drop a tool the other person can help you without you having to disembark the ladder each time. Also, should you fall, the other person will be able to help immediately or call for help.
Ensure that you dress for the job. Wear safety gloves and a long-sleeved shirt to prevent cuts to your hands and arms. Work trousers with pockets can save you from having to carry tools in your hands when they should be on the ladder.

  1. The Correct Tools

Once you have your ladder safely in place you are ready to clean your gutters. Use a plastic scoop to take out the mud and other sediments from the gutter.
You should be able to find a plastic scoop in a hardware shop or you can use a child’s sandbox shovel. It is important to use a shovel made from plastic. It is a softer material than the gutter and so will not damage the guttering during the cleaning process.

  1. Protect the Area

To save time when cleaning your gutters, spread a tarp over the floor where you are working. This will catch the mud and other items that fall whilst cleaning. It will save you from having to clean both the gutters and the general area around the gutters afterwards.

  1. Flush out Debris

After removing the significant debris from the gutter, you must remove the final sediments using clean water. Run a hosepipe up to the gutter and flush out all areas if possible.
This will leave the inside of your gutters looking sparkling clean. However, it will also test how efficiently your downpipes are working. If the water does not efficiently flow down the downpipes, you may need to investigate them too. Only use top-quality gutter supplies for Gutters, Gutter Guards, and Gutter Machines to ensure the longevity of your installation.

  1. Schedule Maintenance

After you have cleaned your house’s guttering, you can assess whether further work is needed properly. If you see that gutters are damaged, sagging, or in any other way needing maintenance, you should call a professional roof contractor for an assessment.
