How To Get The Most From Free Classified Ads

Online classified ads are a brilliant way of selling goods, finding a lodger or looking for a new job.  These locally based sites – such as the The House Shop – match buyers and sellers of everything from cars to clothes.

Here’s our guide to getting the most from free classified ads.

Read the rules

Each site has different rules for posting items.  Before you start, it’s a good idea to read the posting rules to find out what you are and are not allowed to sell using the website.  Make sure you know how the site works and what the rules are before you post your ad.

Sign up for an account

Most online classified ads sites require you to set up an account before you can post an advertisement.  Signing up for an account is simple and straightforward and once you have a username and password it makes logging into the site to post further ads quick and easy.

Use pictures or videos

A great way to make your ad more appealing to buyers is to enhance it with photographs and videos.  Lots of sites do not charge for including images with an advertisement and they can significantly increase your chances of finding a buyer.

The House Shop lets you add up to six images with your classified ad, and we also let you enhance your advert by adding a YouTube video.  For example, you may want to make a video of your home if you are looking to find a tenant.

Use the site’s additional features

To maximise your chances of success, you should also consider using a classified ad website’s additional features.  For example, although your ads stay on the House Shop website for 90 days, we have a ‘bump up your ad’ feature where you can push your ad to the top of the listings for seven days.

Although many sites make a charge for these additional enhancements, they can often help you find a buyer.
