The vast majority of home buyers in the UK make the 1st September the number one day to move home while one in ten of us feel that broadband in now an essential feature in our new homes. Another trend from stressed out home mover is last minute planning for transferring phone lines. The facts come from research carried out by Post Office Homephone. The research shows that although more than one in ten of us (13 per cent) claim that they cannot live without broadband in our new homes, over a quarter (26 per cent) leave it until a week or less before moving to transfer their landline. This means that many movers may find themselves offline and out of touch for a week or two after they move.

As a result of this last minute planning, many home movers are left stressed, argumentative and potentially without vital services in their new home.

In fact, 51 per cent admit to falling out with friends and loved ones during the moving process. Confirming this, 79 per cent of estate agents say they have seen rows and tense moments between home buyers during the buying process.

In response to these findings, Post Office HomePhone and property portal movewithus.co.uk, have put together a downloadable countdown checklist, to help those planning to move home. The guide is available at www.postoffice.co.uk/homemoverchecklist and contains a list of all the things you need to do before moving home.

Hugh Stacey, Head of Post Office HomePhone, explained: “Our findings show a surprisingly large number of people make little or no effort to plan their move in advance, despite it being a huge life event. With only two weeks until the busiest day of the year for moving home, if people act quickly there’s still enough time to give notice for your landline and broadband to be transferred in time for your move or for a new supplier to get you connected. To minimise the other stresses that moving inevitably brings, we have put together the Home Mover Checklist to help those planning their move during the peak moving period this summer which can be downloaded at www.postoffice.co.uk/homemoverchecklist.
