Former “A Place In The Sun” presenter Amanda Lamb turns her property expertise to UK housing market in a day time feel good TV show. Channel 5 You Deserve This House is an emotional roller coaster where Amanda seeks to reward those that have contributed selflessly to the community. It’s a great property makeover show with a twist , done in secret the unsuspecting homeowner is someone who truly deserves it.
Amanda Lamb and a team of volunteers try to complete the secret makeover of the homes of community heroes – people who give up so much of their time for others, that they haven’t any left to put into their own homes.
The series kicked off with time tight and emotions running high as Amanda and her team of volunteers try to complete the secret home makeover of Special Olympics gymnastics coach, Jane Whetnall, in record time.
Jane has been a volunteer for the last 20 years, spending over 80 hours per week training children with disabilities and offering support to their families.
Amanda whisks Jane away for a well-deserved surprise break and spa day, and while she’s away, in just 36 hours, Amanda and some of the children and families whose lives Jane has transformed are going to say a massive ‘thank you’ by making-over her home in secret.
In a recent interview Amanda was asked if she had a favourite story from the TV show
“All of them have been fantastic. Anne Blight, who runs The Starfish Project, helps people with stammers and her story really touched me. When people have stammers we don’t think how that can affect your entire life. One of the contributors that made me cry said that until Anne came along he couldn’t read his children a bedtime story, and because I’m a new mum that really hit home.
We also feature a lady who runs a wheelchair sports club which brings able-bodied and disabled children together so they can all play sport and not feel ostracised and left out because everyone has to play in a wheelchair.”
