Increasing curb appeal will help you sell your property. This means having good pest control strategies in place to prevent pest destroying your space.

You do not have to let intruders in your garden reduce the productivity and beauty of your space.  There are a number of ways that you can work with nature to control and prevent pests from getting into your garden and destroying the landscape or harvest that you have worked so hard on and make it more sellable

Monitor Your Garden

Taking a walk around your garden on a regular basis is a great way of getting some exercise and ensuring that there are no problems you need to get under control.  When you are walking around, you should be on the lookout for any spots, discoloured leaves, wilting and holes in leaves. You should also take the time to look at the underside of leaves and the stems of plants for the cause of problems and to find where pests might be hiding.

Identify Your Garden Pests

Once you have found a problem, you will need to identify the culprit.  You can get some help with this from the internet or your local garden center.  After identifying the pest causing the problem, you will be able to plan the best solution to manage the problem and rid your garden of the pest. One of the pests that you need to be on the lookout for is the Japanese beetle that feeds on the leaves and flowers of over 300 different plants.

Invite The Good Guys

There are a number of garden insects and creatures which will help you maintain the pest levels and ensure that you eradicate them including lady beetles, toads, and birds.  You can attract these good guys by planting certain herbs and flowers that are like. You can also add a house for roads and a birdbath to get more birds.

You should avoid using any pesticides in your garden and learn that a bit of damage is okay.  Caterpillars and a few aphids will bring in the lacewings, birds, lady beetles and toads that are looking for a meal.

Clean Up

There are a lot of garden pests, diseases, and insects that can be prevented and managed by completing a bit of garden clean up.  A strong blast of water from your garden hose will be enough to dislodge mites and reduce the damage they are able to do. You can also knock leaf-eating beetles and other large insects into some soapy water to get rid of them.

You should also look at picking off any discoloured leaves, prune diseases stems and destroy them away from the rest of the garden.  You also need to take the time to disinfect your tools between cuts. This will reduce the chances of spreading the disease with your pruning tools.

Adjust Your Care

You can reduce the spread and risk of problems by adjusting your maintenance schedule.  You should look at avoiding nighttime and overhead watering as this increases the chance of disease.  Organic nitrogen fertilizer will also help to control garden pests. It will also encourage a slow and steady growth which is less vulnerable to disease and insect attacks.

Use Mulch

You need to take the time to mulch the soil with evergreen needles, shredded leaves or wood chips.  This will keep the roots of plants moist and cool during a drought and improve the soil as it decomposes.  Mulch can also stop soil-borne diseases from splashing up onto the plant and infecting it.

The Non-Chemical Controls

If you find the problem continues, you should look at some of the non-chemical garden pest control methods. One of these methods is to fill a yellow bowl with soapy water as this will attract aphids.  A shallow can that is full of beer and sunk into the ground will manage slugs while crumpled paper under flower pots will control earwigs. These are just a few methods that you can look at using to control pests.

You should also look at covering plants with floating row covers.  This fabric allows air, water, and light to reach the plants, but stops pests such as cabbage worms and beetles.

Use Organic Products

There are a number of organic products such as insecticidal soap which can be used to control certain garden pests.  While these products are organic, you will need to carefully read the directions to ensure they are used correctly.
