Don’t get bogged down in the stress of moving. As long as you know what you’ll need and decide on a plan of action, you won’t have any trouble at all. Start planning early, write up some lists and think about what it is you’ll need.

Reliable transport for your belongings

If you’re going to put your life in the back of a van then you’re going to want the person behind the wheel of that van to know where they’re going and how to get there safely. Before you pack up your belongings, research transport and delivery services that will get your belongings from where you are to where you want to be. However, if you’re clueless about how to get your belongings moved without it costing a fortune then consider hiring a freight forwarder. A freight forwarder is a person or company that can organise all of your transportation for you and do so with ease. All you have to do is tell them what it is that needs transporting and they will sort out the best way to do it. It’s important that you research carefully when choosing the right freight company and start researching early to give you enough time to find and make the right choice.

Proper packing tools and equipment

Technically, you could just put all of your belongings in a plastic bag and be done with packing, but if you do decide to do that you shouldn’t be surprised to find most of your belongings broken or lost when you get to the new house. If you care about your belongings then make sure you pack them properly and keep them organised. Keep your delicate items carefully wrapped up and your essentials put where you can easily find them. Packing up might take a bit of effort, but the amount of work you put in before your move is the amount of work you’ll save yourself from doing after your move. Putting all of the things you’ll need for the first night in your new home together in one place will also save you from digging through tens of boxes to find your toothbrush. With the right equipment and organisational skills, putting your life in a suitcase can be a lot easier than you think.

Change your address

This is going to be a long process, but it’s absolutely necessary. You need to make sure that everyone that needs to know where you are knows where you are. This means contacting your TV licensing company, internet provider, bank, insurance providers or anyone else. As for any mail that might be on the way, it is possible for you to arrange for your mail to be re-directed to your address. It costs a little bit to organise, but this way you won’t be losing any mail after your move.  As soon as you can, you should also register to pay council tax in your new location and register to vote with your new address.
