Social networking games are a big hit, everybody plays their favorite games on Facebook. Games like FarmVille and FrontierVille gets people glued to their computer for at least 5 hours a day. The latest gaming big hit is CityVille. Built on previous games like FarmVille, Cafe World and FrontierVille, this game is the biggest of them all, with 67.4 million active monthly player. I am sure it will come as no surprise that many of your friends are already playing CityVille.

In CityVille, the player starts with a plot of land and then grow the land into a full blown city with homes, shops, farms and community buildings. The player can opt for a big urban city with skyscrapers or a smaller city that grows its own food and focus on the quality of life. As with other games like FarmVille and FrontierVille, some buildings do require items that are only available from your friends, thus this game do requires that you play together with your friends whom are taken from your list of Facebook friends.

CityVille has two currencies, coin and cash as well as energy that is used for every action the player make. Experience and sometimes coins are gained for every action taken. Experience will contribute to a player level, new level mostly unlocks new buildings. Once used, energy is refilled by one point every five minutes. In order to move the game forward, there are goals to be met such as get population to a certain limit, also to accommodate for seasonal event, for example completing a Valentine goal will get the player a Valentine themed building.

Coin, the main currency used to construct a building is gained every hour depending on the type of building build onto the land. There is also another way to earn coins, with crops and business/stores, they work in tandem. The time taken for each crop to be ready for harvest is different, do use them wisely. For example, strawberries take 8 minutes to grow while carrots take 8 hours. This enables people to do their daily chores while the city progress on it’s own. During harvesting, there is a possibility of receiving a crop specific collection item that reward the player once a collection is complete.

The basic of CityVille is easy to grab, however the amount of strategies is infinite due to the variety of buildings and actions, also the availability of goals that the player can do in CityVille to build their dream city. The most important thing in CityVille is your friends or in the game it’s called Neighbours. It is very important to get as many friends as Neighbours to improve the city. Once again I repeat it’s important to have as many Neighbours as you can to improve the city, especially in the higher level.

If you have played FarmVille or FrontierVille, then CityVille should be familiar. I have to say that the game is very addictive and it’s difficult not to be tempted to check back every now and then to see how the city progressed.
